Day 1 – Scenic Transfer from Auckland to Tongariro

Your journey begins with a private pick-up from your Auckland accommodation. Enjoy a relaxed drive south through the stunning Waikato region, with two unforgettable stops:

  Explore New Zealand’s most colourful geothermal park. Discover bubbling mud pools, steaming craters, and the famous Champagne Pool — a surreal experience not to be missed.




• Huka Falls
  
  Witness the power of nature as thousands of litres of water surge through the narrow gorge of the Waikato River. A truly impressive and photogenic stop near Lake Taupō.

In the evening, you’ll arrive at your accommodation near the Tongariro National Park, ready and rested for the big hike the next day.

Accommodation Included

Stay overnight in a comfortable, hand-picked lodge or hotel close to the Crossing trailhead (twin or double room with ensuite).

Day 2 – Tongariro Alpine Crossing Hike

Early morning pickup from your hotel by Tongariro Crossing Shuttles, a local DOC-approved transport provider. The shuttle will transfer you to the Mangatepopo trailhead, the starting point of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is considered New Zealand’s best one-day hike, covering approximately 19.4 km through dramatic volcanic landscapes within Tongariro National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site). Along the way you will pass highlights such as Mangatepopo Valley, South Crater, Red Crater, Emerald Lakes, and Blue Lake.

The hike typically takes 6–8 hours, depending on fitness level and weather conditions. At the end of the track at Ketetahi, the shuttle service will transfer you back to your accommodation.
